Erm, just out of interest, have any of you heard of crate training because I'm a bit confused! I just saw the article on it on this site (http://largedogbreedz.com/large-dog-training-articles/dog-house-training/crate--kennel-training- your-dog.html) but I never heard of it before. It does sound like a good idea but I'm not sure whether it would be any good for Molly. She lived in a stable for most of her life and keeps the living room pretty tidy, but then again it would give her somewhere to run if she felt threatened by strangers when friends visit for the first time. I suppose I'm thinking that she could get used to them in her own time then. What to do...
Hi! I\\\'m 24 years old and have a greyhound called Molly. She\\\'s 4 and a terror, but so sweet and loving! I love dogs in general and my parnter has a long list of dogs he wants - including a Great Dane! As I\\\'m 5\\\'2\\\", that may be a mismatch! Look forward to getting to know you all!

Hello Louise! I'm in the process of crate training Roxy and it is the most wonderful thing. Some of you might think I'm a hard person when I say she creid the first time I put her in it but its stopped her chewing my den to bits. She was a danger to herself because she chewed any electrical cables she could get her mitts on. Since she has been crate trained, she has a little more respect. SHe still destroys things but not as much - and she tends to listen more to me when I give her commands. Its the only solution we have tried that has worked, and theres been many attempted ones! Not sure it would work for your dog though, sounds as if shes already well trained and it might send her the opposite way and not want to mix at all.

Lol, thought I'd post that again so I don't stay a puppy forever! Not sure how I managed to sign myself out though... oh dear!

Welcome to the new LDBZ forums Rose. Hope to see more of you.

Cratetraining is one of the most fundamental practices that one can apply to their dog when training a pup or adolescent. This will set into motion more dog training fundamentals as the dog progresses. BTW, it helps alot on your carpet cleaning bill as well.

Hi!

Yeah, I found that it is the one thing that Roxy is really responding too, and trust me I've already found that it helps to save on carpt cleaning bills! The sofa doesn't take such a beating either anymore!

She has learn so much in a short period of time since I have been training her in that way. I found your article really useful too because I'd implemented some ideas with her, but the article gave me more ideas. I didn't realise you could introduce so many tricks and behaviors to her by using it. It was only meant to stop her wrecking the house!

There's another article on her you might want to read if you're having problems with your dog. Roxy certainly sounds like a handful! It's at http://largedogbreedz.com/large-dog-training-articles/dog-house-training/dog-house-training.html. It gives some other tips on house training a dog. I guess you do what works best for you because the same tricks don't work on every dog. My aunt's dog, also a boxer, doesn't respond to food, but he does respond to affection. FInd your weakness and you've got the way to train your dog!

Tina's the opposite - she just loves food! Give her a snack and shes yours! Worked wonders when it came to training though. SHe picked up loadsa stuff in a real short space of time because she knew if she was a good girl, she'd get a snack! Surprisingly, she responds to my command now even when there isn't food on offer.
NC all the way! Can't beat a run on the beach with the best dog in the world for company!
