My Saint, 6 1/2 y, was pre-diagnosed w/cancer. He had a lump in the back of his jaw a few wks ago. The vet put him on a broad spectrum antibiotic to see if that would help. He also did a fluid draw at the spot to see if that showed anything. It showed nothing alluding to cancer. During the course of his antibiotics over the past two wks, his lymph nodes in his neck have become very enlarged. He had a follow up appt this AM, and the vet has said that all his nodes are enlarged. He is pre diagnosing cancer. The blood work results next week will hopefully show something, but in the meantime the family is devestated. On another note, I was just contemplating the fact that he has lyme disease. Might these enlarged lymph nodes, fever and lack of appetite be lyme disease issues vs cancer?!
