This dog needs to live indoors with its family and needs the attention and companionship of its owners. They are a natural predatorial animal who is protective of his own territory and is a natural protector at heart. This dog is very energetic and should be taught to sit as their first command.

The Weimaraner is very intelligent, so once taught a trick or two, they will repeat for praise or attention. Their focus is extremely high, so some get a reputation for being dumb due to their ability to focus in on one objective at a time. This breed loves to bark and can make a great watchdog. Instilled with a great sense of smell and a passion for working, the Weimaraner can be used for all kinds of hunting game. They have also been known for their police work, agility, search and rescue, tracking, pointing, and retrieving.
Trainability: Above average; should begin early. Quick to learn, but resistant to repetitive training.
Health: The Weimaraner prone to bloat, it is better to feed them two or three small meals a day rather than one large meal. They may also suffer from hip dysplasia, but are in general a hardy breed of dog. They are also prone to hypertropic osteodystrophy (too rapid growth) and tumors.


With Other Animals: Good, but will not work well with small non-canine animals. Needs to be socialized around other dogs when young for best results.
Children: Good if raised around them. Should be kept away from toddlers due to their high energy level.
Climate: Tolerates hot climates, but is sensitive to cold climates.
