Temperament: The Gordon Setter breed is known for its loyalty,obediance, and kindness. A devoted, polite, gentle dog, they are make great family companions and do very well with children. They are very loyal to their family and can be reserved with others they don't know. These dogs are generally friendly with everyone if raised in the right environment due to their gentle nature. This breed will need alot of exercise and can be very hyperactive at times. Originally bred to be hunting dogs, the Gordon Setter loves to roam freely. Their talents include guarding, watchdogging, tracking, pointing, and hunting.
Trainability: Training should always start early. Training should be consistant and loving in approach.
Health: Usually in excellent health, but some are prone to hip dysplasia and eye diseases such as progressive retinal atrophy and cataracts. These dogs are prone to bloat and should be fed two or three small meals a day rather than one big one.


With Other Animals: May become jealous of other pets, but is generally good around other dogs. If raised around other pets early, these dogs can get along with anyone.
Children: Good with small children. Very gentle.
Climate: Tolerates cold climates. Needs shaded areas in hot climates.
Indoor/Outdoor: Mostly an outdoor breed. This dog likes to roam, so will do well in a fenced in yard. Not good for the apartment life.
Grooming: Regular brushing of the coat is important to maintain excellent condition. This breed is an average shedder.
