Life Expectancy: 12-15 years
Height Range: 25 to 29 (males) / 23-27 (females)
Weight Range: 50-60 Ibs
Colors: Any color is admissable for this type of breed. Most are found with light cream colors or markings.
Temperament: Very sweet, loyal, effectionate, and sensitive with a very low dominance level. The Afghan Hound has been know for its extreme kindness, so these dogs do not react well to hostile training methods. They are suspicious of strangers, but generally not hostile. This is a very high spirited animal and may take alot of training. Some can even be high strung or timid.
Trainability: Highly independant breed, but not known for obediance. Training should start at an early stage. Reacts well to non-hostile training methods. Can be difficult to housebreak. Health: Generally Healthy, but does have a low pain threshold. Minor cuts will bother the animal.
Other Animals: Moderately good, but may chase smaller animals due to the breeds instintive nature for game hunting.
Children: Good, best with older more considerate children.
Climate: Any
Indoor/Outdoor: Indoor housing with outdoor exercise. Not reccommended for apartment life.
Grooming: Very High. Regular grooming, for healthy coat, and frequest ear cleaning is a must. Long thick coat demands a great deal of attention.
